Why cards, and not another list
I kept a windowsill of tomatoes my first summer here, mostly out of stubbornness, and I noticed something about them I hadn't expected to notice: they never once hurried. They sat there being green, then a little less green, then finally red, on their own schedule, and nobody stood over them asking why it was taking so long.
I started writing down the sentences I wished I'd heard more often around that time, the ones a friend might actually say to me instead of the ones I was saying to myself. Not a slogan to repeat until I believed it. Just a line, read once, that happened to be true.
Seven to Start With
Read one. Not all seven at once, that rather defeats the point. Just the one that catches you, on the morning it catches you.
That's the whole set, for now. Not a program, not seven days you have to complete in order. Some mornings none of them will fit, and that's fine too, they'll still be there tomorrow.
I'm not a therapist or a licensed counselor, and this page isn't therapy or treatment. It's seven sentences that have felt true to me on hard mornings. If what you're carrying feels like more than a line on a card can hold, please find a professional who can sit with you properly.
With warmth from the hill, Carol
